May 14, 2005   The 2005 maple season ended in the coldest maple orchards of Eastern Canada the last week of April.  It was a poor season in the primary producing areas in Eastern Canada and the Northeastern United States, but a good one in the marginal producing areas, primarily South of the Great Lakes.

Overall the Mapleman expects the total harvest to be 15 to 20 percent less than the official estimates of U.S. and Canadian crop in the previous year (2004). That is, the 2005 harvest will probably total about 27 million litres (or about 7.1 million U.S. Gallons) of pure maple syrup.  (Note..The official USDA Production Estimate for the US crop will be released in June 2005 but  the official Estimates for Canada are scheduled for release in the fall of 2005 (October or November).

The estimates and remarks on this website are based on daily and weekly assessments of official weather station records published on the internet.  They are the product  of a privately funded ongoing research project that was initiated more than 20 years ago.  .
